Today is a thing of joy and beauty. Not only do we get the new old awards clip (yeah, we've all seen it, but here's a link for posterity), but today
smidgy06 posted some adorable new old SPN cast pics (here) AND we get the season 5 casting spoiler...
( cut for said spoiler and such )
(Casting spoilers are the ONLY Superantural spoilers I'll read. I'm sure the con will kind of obliterate it for me, but as of right now I'm unspoiled for anything else, so please don't tell me anything beyond casting.)

She can't keep him. If you think you or someone you know around the San Francisco area would be willing to take in a kitten, please go read her post here!
Oh my god, I am laughing so hard I'm crying. Never leave me, The Office. NEVER LEAVE ME.

Yep, that's pretty much it exactly.
I know a lot of people have been linking to this, but, you know, it's worth it. I only wish I could play this for people I know beyond all of you. I really don't think there's one person on my flist who would disagree with equal rights, because I can choose who I surround myself with online. It's offline where things get trickier.

Oh my god,
fahrbot, look at what I found on the Old 97's message boards:
photos from the gig at Cain's!
These must have been taken by the guy next to me with the nice camera.
In other news, have been mainlining Chuck. It's awesome. (omfg the tango scene)
ETA:
The Old 97’s played a fundraiser gig in Baltimore last week to benefit Barrack Obama’s campaign in Ohio. How did that come about?
Our guitar player Ken’s best friend from high school — our friend Jamie — was actually the man who introduced me to my wife. So he’s very important in our lives. He’s a great guy; he’s even toured with us as a guitar tech. He’s gotten involved with Ohio’s governor’s office. In taking our best guess in the election, we have come around to Obama. [Jamie is] very passionate about him, and asked if we wanted to do it.
We believe in Obama’s potential — because aren’t they all potential until they get elected? But we have a great gut feeling about Obama, and it’s an important time right now. It’s actually alienated some fans of ours that we’re doing anything political. But we’re all fathers. And some things will radiate out through generations, and go beyond us. That’s why we’re doing it: We love our kids. We love this world. And we think we’re taking a pretty good guess by trying to help [Obama's candidacy] along.
ajkdkjfka how can I love them even more at this point. (taken from here)

Last night started out less than well as the directions I had to get into Detroit to St. Andrews were easy enough, except in this roundabout thing we had to take there were about four turnoff roads with no signs. Including ours. So after some driving around and walking around and being lost and Will freaking out because he wanted to get me there on time we finally parked and made it to the place at about 7:45, only 15 minutes until the doors open. There was a good sized line and I thought I could kiss my spot on the rail goodbye, especially because the stage was way smaller than the one in Oklahoma, but nope. Like Will said, most of them must have gone for the alcohol first (plus, unlike in Oklahoma, people who hadn't bought their tickets had a separate line than everyone else instead of one big line - which worked to our advantage in Oklahoma, but wouldn't have here). So we got a sweet spot on the rail in front of Murry next to like, an entire fucking family, lol. There was a mom and dad and their five children who were REALLY REALLY EXCITED. (When Rhett came out he made eye contact with them after the first song and was smiling over at them, and the boy next to me who had to be about ten yelled, WE'RE SO LUCKY!!1 lol) We had an hour to wait, and I spent most of it obsessively checking the time via Will's cell phone.
The opener was a guy named Charlie Louvin. He's apparently a country music legend, he's also 80 years old. I was prepared for something painful and boring, but omg, this was a funny, funny man. My favorite part was when he introduced his guitarist - "This is our ladykiller, actually, he doesn't kill them, he just cripples them and sends them to me". Also? He was in love with me. HE STARED AT ME THE ENTIRE CONCERT. (And no, I'm not making it up or projecting - when you are on the rail and that close to the band members you can tell when they're looking right at you, not just in your direction.) I don't know if he thought I was a huge fan or what (the thing is, I always kind of feel bad for opening bands, and the dude is 80, so I was going to pretend like this was the most awesome thing I'd ever seen, and I was grinning and dancing and stuff - plus I actually ended up liking a lot of his songs, so)...so that was definitely different. I mean, the family I was standing next to were huge fans, because I could hear them talking about him and they were dancing and stuff, and then these guys off to the left were huge fans because they kept whistling and shouting for him to play "Knoxville Girl! Knoxville Girl!" and when he DID play their request? He STILL stared at me. I was like, this song is for those guys, go to that side of the stage! But, anyway, he was pretty good and I enjoyed it despite being made uncomfortable by the staring.
Then there was like a half hour between Charlie and the Old 97's, which was made less painful toward the end because someone put Bowie on, which Will and I shamelessly sang and danced around to. When Rhett came out they didn't turn the music off right away and he started singing and dancing around to it too, it was awesome. They opened with The Fool and then Lonely Holiday, which I think I started crying because that's how I am and I've been really into that song lately and I wanted to hear it, so it was an awesome surprise for me. They also played Designs On You which I was prepared to yell for and also wanted badly to hear, and Here's To The Halcyon (which I almost stroked out on because Rhett was like, this is a song about a guy and his ship and when it starts to sink he blames it on God, or something like that, and I knew just what song they were talking about and I was like YES really loud with an embarrassing fist pump because it's my favorite off the new album and I really wanted to hear it live) - so there were my three songs I'd been hoping they would play, and also Victoria and Barrier Reef again which I was so happy about. They also played Will's two favorite songs, Streets Of Where I'm From (which I also love long time) and The New Kid. He wanted to yell for Indefinitely but I made him yell for Big Brown Eyes, but I guess he isn't as cute as Sarah because they didn't play it, lol. The crowd was kind of weird, because after Cain's Ballroom I expected the shouts of "Murry!" when he went into one of his songs, but there weren't, so I did. But I kind of sucked at yelling and having it be loud, and so Murry was about to go into Crash On The Barrelhead and Will, maybe sensing my yelling failure, yelled "MURRY YOU ROCK" so fucking loud, rotfl. And he was dancing around like a crazy person the whole time, and I told him later, after the concert and when we met them and everything, that I felt like it was his favorite band and not mine, he was so into it and he doesn't even listen to anything but a handful of songs unless I'm playing them in the car. Although he knew a lot of the songs because I had to tell him to STFU because all I could hear was him singing. Anyway, the band was on fire, and they really gave it their all like they had in Oklahoma. They are just really amazing live, they put on such a good show. I've determined that I love their new album live, and I wish I could just have a live recording of it because it rocks even harder that way.
So at the end of the concert Rhett came over to shake hands with the kids and then he threw his guitar pick right at my face. It fell on the ground because I was like WTF GUITAR PICK. All the lights were off so I couldn't see it, and some guy came over looking on the ground with his cell phone light, so Will was like "we already found it, dude" and he was like "good find!" and left. So when the lights came off I saw it at my feet and got it. :D Then the short stage and the giant family next to me once again came to my advantage, because the roadie gave the family Rhett's setlist, then he gave me Murry's.
Will's mission that night was apparently to get me to meet the band, so he asked a roadie if we could go back and get the setlist signed, but he said he didn't think the band was back there still and our best bet was to go wait by the bus that was parked out front. So we went outside and Ken and Murry were right there. I went to Murry first, because, Murry. ♥ And he was so sweet. Will and I both told him how awesome he was, and I made sure to tell all of them they were my favorite band and how much I appreciated them coming to Detroit because I hadn't though they would. I tried desperately to call Sarah to put her on the phone with Murry, but Will's cell phone had completely crapped out. Ken was hilarious and we talked about his kid's soccer team of all things, lol, and those re-done movie trailers on youtube. Then some other people were talking to Murry and Ken and we waited for Rhett and Phillip until there were only like 2 other small groups of people left. And they had been on the bus and Murry went to get them for us, and I was right there when Rhett came off and he grabbed up my hand and was like Hi :D and I was like o_____o He's really short. And gorgeous. And I can't remember a goddamn thing he or I said except when he asked how I spelled my name. And then Will asked him to give me a hug because I would never ask such a thing myself and he did. Then I moved on to see Phillip because I couldn't handle any more. Phillip was hilarious, and the chattiest of the bunch. We probably talked to him for about ten minutes, and when I thanked him for coming to Detroit he said that they'd been trying to hit markets (to which he made fun of himself for calling them markets) they wouldn't necessarily have, and some had been hits and misses, and said something to the effect that Detroit was kind of a miss because I guess there hadn't been a lot of people there (which I had noticed when I went to the bathroom after Charlie's act, the room was maybe half filled) so I was like well you guys made my year, so I appreciate you coming here. But now I'm worried they won't come back and I guess I'll just have to go visit Sarah again on their next tour if they come play by her again. XD And when we were about to leave a guy started up his giant green motorcycle that had been parked next to us, and it was really loud and Rhett jumped back like a bomb had gone off and covered his ears, he looked so freaking appalled, it was hilarious.

I got to meet the band.
As soon as I left my head started to feel as if it might implode, so I'm going right to bed. More later.

I haven't been keeping up with comics for a long time now. I got real behind and I've been pining for them, but damn, with covers like these?
Nightwing #147 | Cable #6
I wonder if I'm really missing anything. XD

Man Man - Top Drawer
you wonder where true love went 'cause the breeder in your bed don't butter your bread
This is like Tom Waits meets Oingo Boingo or something, I don't even know, it's just extremely catchy and awesome. Snagged this originally from
janegodzilla.
Styx - Renegade
hangman is coming down from the gallows and I don't have very long
AC/DC - Back In Black
yes I'm let loose from the noose that's kept me hangin' about
I feel like these two need no explanation, they're just awesome.
The Coasters - Down In Mexico
down in Mexicali there's a crazy little place that I know where the drinks are hotter than the chili sauce
April March - Chick Habit
hang up your chick habit, hang it up daddy, a girl's not a tonic or a pill
These two songs were in the Tarantino movie, Death Proof. And speaking of Death Proof? Melissa and I got Vanishing Point because of it, and dear god, lol, it was so bad. WTF was up with the ending, and the naked chick on the motorcycle? I think I'm just allergic to movies from the 70's. What are some good movies from the 70's, anyway? I'm sure there are some...like, Star Wars. I think One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was made in the 70's.

Whilst I was in Arkansauce I was hit by a random need to draw something. So I drew Dean and Sammy for Sarah, and then went over it with an art brush that I randomly had with me. I really have no idea why it was in my bag.

In one of the recent issues of Entertainment Weekly the magazine listed it's picks for the new classics in movie, tv, books, etc. Their #1 pick for books was The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I'd never heard of it before, but it's spot at #1 and the blurb intrigued me. Father and son traveling through a post-apocalyptic world? Right up my alley.
By page five, I was sold. Possibly by this alone,
They set out along the blacktop in the gun-metal light, shuffling through the ash, each the other's world entire.
The writing is definitely a style I've never seen before. It has the type of run-on sentences I favor. He often doesn't use apostrophes, never uses quotation marks, and goes between past and present tense in a bizarre way. The latter took me a bit to get used to, but I liked his writing.
The story, oh my god, I wanted to cry before I'd even gotten past ten pages, it was all so sad and desolate. But it was good and suspenseful and moving. The closest thing I can compare this to is Roland and Jake searching for a place where they can be safe, through a world that's been mostly destroyed.
Five stars. Would read again for delicious heartbreak. :E
Look at me, the man said.
He turned and looked. He looked like he'd been crying.
Just tell me.
We wouldnt ever eat anybody, would we?
No. Of course not.
Even if we were starving?
We're starving now.
You said we werent.
I said we werent dying. I didnt say we werent starving.
But we wouldnt.
No. We wouldnt.
No matter what.
No. No matter what.
Because we're the good guys.
Yes.
And we're carrying the fire.
And we're carrying the fire. Yes.

Shall have details/play catch-up tomorrow.
Well I was gonna wait to post these but I shan't. Two ESPEN sketches for
fahrbot, sloppily drawn with love listening to (mostly) Renegade by Styx and Back In Black by AC/DC. Worst song to draw to and also pretty much to listen to ever? In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly. Seriously, I got through about 6 minutes before skipping the fuck out of that song...so completely annoying.
Anyway, the other day Jaida made a post with a poll asking who people liked more in stories or whatnot, the brooder, or the goober? I tend to lead toward the goober. And then someone brought up an even better kind of character...
( Dean Winchester, the brooding goober )

My fortune cookie said I need to focus more on drawing and painting, and photography...but I really don't want to think about photography right now. :| Anyway I've been doing some sketching recently. I've always loved to sketch, because I love the rough lines and not having to worry about finishing touches, etc. It's relaxing, yet challenging at the same time. I have a couple I thought were worth saving here.
( sketches )
As far as my art goes, I really feel like I don't know where I'm at lately, or where to go with it. Fanart was never satisfying, and I never felt I had a feel for it. I want to paint but you really need an area for that, and there just isn't one here. So I feel stuck, actually I've felt stuck, or blocked, for a long time. Weh.
Books to pick up at the library tomorrow:
- On Writing, Stephen King
- The Road, Cormac McCarthy
- The Hearts of Horses, Molly Gloss
